Since 1985, our reusable goods donation program has enjoyed a partnership with Value Village where all donations generate funding to support Diabetes Canada.
Diabetes Canada is responsible for soliciting, picking up & delivering goods to Value Village stores. The program is paid based upon the volume of goods delivered. Through this partnership, 100% of net proceeds support diabetes research, education, programs, services & advocacy and more. On average 4 million dollars (net) is raised through the clothing collection program.
The Canada Revenue Agency requires registered charities to determine the fair market value of any non-cash donations that they receive in order to issue a tax receipt. This proves to be a very difficult task for used clothing items, for this reason charities who are recycling clothing do not issue receipts.
Schedule a pick up at any time that is convenient for you. You can also contact us for more information.
At this time, we do not service Québec, Yukon, Northwest Territories or Nunavut. We do, however, continue to assess how we can expand bins and clothing donation pickup to all regions of the country.
Volunteers are very important to Diabetes Canada. However, it is necessary that we have full-time staff working on our team as volunteers require more flexibility and usually are not able to dedicate the time required to operate this program.
Diabetes Canada’s reusable goods donation program will schedule regular pick ups of reusable items at your convenience. We have an online scheduling tool you can use to arrange your next pick up anytime. We also have clothing donation bins located in communities across Canada, where individuals can drop off their gently used clothing and cloth items.
Diabetes Canada is always looking for support from corporations, local businesses, schools, municipalities and communities. You can help by becoming a host for clothing donation bins, sponsoring a community clothing drive, becoming an apartment/condominium building pick up coordinator or arranging for your business or school to conduct a clothing drive on our behalf. For more information on how to get involved, contact us here.
Diabetes Canada’s Fundraising Made Easy program helps schools, clubs and communities across Canada host their own clothing drives and raise funds for their trips, equipment, uniforms and more, while supporting diabetes research.

Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million lbs. of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. This translates into savings of 1 billion kWh of energy - Equivalent to removing 212,087 cars from roads - Saves 7,257.44 mature trees- Conserves 167,828.30 liters of water - and reduces our carbon footprint by 280 million pounds of CO2
